History of Man O' War Nigeria

MAN O’ WAR’ Bay Training Center which later became known as Citizenship and Leadership Training Center is a product of Outward Bound type of education developed by late Dr. Kurt Hahn, a German who later naturalized as a Briton. He founded the first Outward Bound School in Aberdovey,  Wales in 1941. Ten years later, late Dr. Alec Dickson, a Briton, whose special interest was community development, founded the ‘Man O’ War Bay Training Center in 1951 in Victoria, Southern Cameroon. It was given a legal status by an Ordinance published in the extra-ordinary Gazette No. 45 of 10th August, 1960 and modified by Decree No. 38 of December, 1989. The Citizenship and Leadership Training Center, an affiliate member of the Outward Bound Organization Worldwide which exist in over fifty countries of the world is the first in Africa and number two in the world. The center has trained more than seven million Nigerians from all walks of life since its inception fifty-six years ago. The center is an informal education institution. It uses the challenges found in the environment to confront participants for the purpose of developing the core values of courage, trust, integrity, and compassion for others. In order to actualize the development of these core values, the center incorporates the following into its training programs:

• Character development: Developing capacities of the mind, body and soul, to better understand one's responsibilities to one's self, others and also to the community.

• Adventures & challenges: Actions that requires special effort, exciting remarkable experiences that involve uncertain outcomes and acceptable risks.

• Compassion & Service: An active expression of the value  we place on our humanity, our diversity and natural world. A heartfelt caring connection to each other and the whole world.

• Social & Environmental Responsibilities: Instilling in participants a sense of  integrity that results in choices.

Man O'War Nigeria is an Association and is divided into two:
(1) Man O'War Community Based:
(2) Man O'War Cadet Club:

Man O'War Community Base are the ones you see around your community working with all other forces and helping to maintain peace and order, in the community.

Man O'War Cadet Club: This is an Association formed by student of any school. I.e University, Polytechnic, College of Education.
Note, this is not a secret cult. This is an Association Approved by the Federal government of Nigeria.

This is also an Association formed by the members of a community. Whether Rural area, Urban area, to mention but a few. But we are one body.
